Who wouldn’t love a quick and easy STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) activity? And not to forget, something that will provide great entertainment to our toddlers and older kids. Sign me up for it! Here is another simple idea that creates a beutiful product that both mom and toddler will say “wow!”. Well, at least that was our reaction when we did this art activity. This exercise will also amuse the little ones for more than 5 minutes.
1. Pour water to the ice cube container.
2. Add few droplets of food coloring.
3. Place the straws.
4. Freeze for a couple of hours or overnight.
5. Take out the frozen water with food coloring from the container.
6. Have fun and paint with your toddlers and kids!
Kids can make beautiful swirls immediately after the frozen water/food color cubes are taken out from the ice containers. This is actually my favorite part since it is not too messy yet. Soon enough, once the ice cubes are a little bit more melted, colors can be mixed better.
Some learning ideas or toddler readiness skills can also be incorporated in this activity such as color and number recognition. Kids can be encouraged to identify the color of the cubes and count them while waiting for the ice to melt. Additionaly, if different shapes of ice containers are available in your home, kids can also identify shapes. Maybe, it is time for us to buy a new ice cube containers in different shapes…
And that is it! Quick. Easy. Great for parents. Fun for kids! I am always looking for STEAM activities that are simple for both me and my little boy. I would love to hear your recommendations. Alright, till next time!
